Intamac Enables Bell Canada To Launch Nationwide Home Monitoring Services

“By basing Home Monitoring on the Intamac secure internet portal Bell puts the homeowner in complete control. In addition to the benefits of a home monitoring service designed to provide timely information about any unexpected entry or event, clients can remotely manage and monitor routine events in real-time that occur within the home every day. For example, clients can customise their home monitoring service to be alerted via phone, e-mail or text message to monitor and act on the following:

• Whether children are home safely from school: Home Monitoring enables parents to get an alert at work when their child arrives home from school and turns the system off using their personalized PIN
• When an authorised visitor – a tradesperson, cleaner, nanny or au pair is in the home: Home Monitoring enables a temporary PIN to be activated in order grant access for authorised individuals. The system allows the user to monitor at what time, on what date and for how long the event occurred.
• Potential hazards and costly damage: Home Monitoring water and smoke detectors allow homeowners to respond quickly to flooding or fire when away from the home
• Business premises, rental properties or second homes: The portal approach allows remote property and premises to be secured and managed. For instance, holiday properties for rental can be monitored to know when they are vacant or occupied, and to see if there are issues that need attention.
• Support of independent living: With the Safe at Home feature, clients can monitor normal movement of an elderly family member within the home or set alert notification if daily routines do not occur by a specified time each day.”

British mulling security cams that see through clothes?

“There’s no two ways about it: the British love their security. And when it comes to employing technology for keeping the streets clean (and Segway-free!) and the terrorists squirreled away, the Brits put the rest of the world to shame, what with their four million CCTV cams (some with mic’s and speakers, but no aggression detectors — yet), head-mounted bobby cams, rolling license plate scanners, and heck, even their camera-watching cameras. So it should come as no surprise that the government’s latest idea for ensuring total citizen compliance putting safety first involves the deployment of security cams that have the ability to see through people’s clothing, among other high-tech surveillance devices normally confined to your favorite airport.”

Safe at home?

“You can throw down thousands of dollars for a security system to prevent home burglaries, but don’t underestimate the power of hedge clippers, police said. Bushes haven’t lost their status as classic hiding spots for burglars.

“First thing I did at my house?” said Munster police Sgt. Steven Kovacik. “I cut all those d—- things down.”

Most burglars aren’t criminal masterminds. They tend to be opportunists and they can be diverted from their target of the moment, Lansing police Sgt. Steven Roberts said.

“The criminals that do it for the opportunity will be thwarted by even the smallest measures that you take to protect your home, it seems,” he said.

Motion lights are worthwhile, said police officials and home security workers.

Dogs — regardless of size — can scare away burglars, McDevitt and Roberts said. Be prepared, however, for extra scrutiny if you go to the Humane Society Calumet Area looking for a dog solely for protection, said Rachel Hall, executive director. The society makes sure dogs find loving homes, and are not being used only as menacing sentries.”

Wireless videocams are a home security option

“Most security experts will tell you a well-lighted yard is one of the best security options. This is true, although outdoor lights cost a lot to operate and the electricity usage contributes to air pollution and global warming. Also, bright light creates problems for many animals. Just one or two low-wattage, shielded outdoor lights in key locations, in addition to motion-sensing fixtures, will provide adequate deterrents at a reasonable operating cost.

Other simple improvements such as strong window locks, thorny bushes under windows and secure door deadbolts help, too. For example, Master Lock has a new “Night Watch” deadbolt with a switch to block the use of all keys.

A fully monitored security system is your best option if you can afford the monthly monitoring fees. With security alarm labels on all the windows and doors, a would-be thief will have second thoughts about breaking in. If he does get in, the loud siren alarm will scare him off and alert you.

Another advantage of a monitored system is it protects you against more than just break-ins. The smoke alarms also are connected to the monitoring station. This is very helpful if a fire starts while you are away at work. If your home has flooding problems, water sensors can be installed. Many of the major monitored security system control panels are designed to be compatible with X10 dialers if you cannot afford the monitoring service. When the alarm is triggered, the dialer can call several phone numbers and alert whoever answers to the problem. You may want to program it to call a neighbor and yourself at work. ”
