• Replace weak doors. Make sure the front and back doors and frames are strong and in good condition. If you live in a flat, your own flat door should be treated as the front door and not as the communal door.
• Glass panels on and around the door are especially vulnerable so replace them with laminated glass or fit security film to the inside of existing glazing.
• Fit front and back doors with a five-lever mortice deadlock – and use it!
• Fit all exterior doors with mortice bolts.
• Fit hinge bolts to stop the door being pulled off its hinges.
